A good example is the band with the unlikely moniker of Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye. It ranked behind only Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey as the most successful big band of the '40s. Nevertheless, Kaye's recordings are hard to come by.

I enjoyed the music of Sammy Kaye and have a difficult time finding his recordings. It was refreshing to stumble across this sample. As even the liner notes to this CD admit, bandleader Sammy Kaye represented the squarer, more commercial end of the Big Band era, taking his cues from the workmanlike Glenn Miller, but restricting his dance music to an even more controlled, brisker, less lyrical style.

Sammy Kaye (born Samuel Zarnocay J. March 13, 1910 – June 2, 1987) was an American bandleader and songwriter, whose tag line, "Swing and sway with Sammy Kaye", became one of the most famous of the Big Band Era. His signature tune was "Harbor Lights". Kaye, born in Lakewood, Ohio, graduated from Rocky River High School in Rocky River, Ohio.
