Talk about Barry Manilow - Barry Manilow

Lemana
Barry Manilow got saddled with an "uncool" reputation, kind of a poster boy for easy listening. He certainly comes from more of the show biz pop tradition rather than hard rock. I saw this LP in the dollar bin and decided to check it out. The often-recorded "Cloudburst," "Flashy Lady" & "Could It Be Magic" are all strong cuts. "I Am Your Child" is a bit cloying and the opening "Sing It" is more of an indulgence than listenable. Manilow worked with Bette Midler in her early career; and her hit anthem "Friends" shows how Midler took a good song in Manilow's version and made it dynamic with performance. This set is enjoyable.
