Alchemy is the debut solo album of Television guitarist, Richard Lloyd. It was released in 1979, one year after the breakup of Television and the release of their second album, Adventure. Trouser Press called it "a gem of a solo album

Ex-Television guitarist Richard Lloyd's first album came out a year after the band's final 1970s release. This platter contains a fine batch of earnest, solid, unpretentious songs that exhibit a 1960s sensibility and tunefulness. Arrangements and performances here are unaffectedly prosaic, in contrast to the arty fullness seen in the music of Lloyd's prior band. Alchemy" may have seemed slight to fans of "Marquee Moon" but twenty five years on its staying power is undeniable, for it is a brilliantly conceived work of erotic and mystical romanticism, filled with yearning, evocations of innocence and - beneath some occasional touches of '80s-era synth by Michael Young that Lloyd claims were overdubbed without his consent - is a beautifully programmed.

Ex-Television guitarist Richard Lloyd's first album came out a year after the band's final 1970s release. As a solo artist, Lloyd shows himself to be a tasteful, imaginative lead guitarist and a capable, if unspectacular crooner ("Woman's Ways" proves that soaring, full-throated singing is not his forte).
