In 1987, Blaise Compaoré became President and, after an alleged 1989 coup attempt, was later elected in 1991 and 1998, elections which were boycotted by the opposition and received a considerably low turnout, as well as in 2005. He remained head of state until he was ousted from power by the popular youth upheaval of 31 October 2014, after which he was exiled to the Ivory Coast. While services remain underdeveloped, the National Office for Water and Sanitation (ONEA), a state-owned utility company run along commercial lines, is emerging as one of the best-performing utility companies in Africa

Location of Koudougou. Situated on the Mossi Plateau, the city is 75 kilometres (47 mi) west of Ouagadougou. In 1952 it was connected by rail to Ouagadougou and Abidjan. It is situated along the N13 road south of Sabou and north of Yako.
The Mossi are the major ethnic group of Burkina Fasso. The music here is for two voices and two spike-fiddles, and is a particularly rare example of savannah griot singing. There are no notes, of course, but it's music in a tradition very rarely recorded - at least for public consumption.
