Larry H. Lang is commander and conductor of The United States Air Force Band. This premier musical unit inspires patriotism and military service in fellow citizens, honors those who serve, and represents the . Air Force and United States of America to millions worldwide. Colonel Lang is responsible for all activities of this 179-member squadron including equipping, training, and deploying Airmen musicians to perform nearly 1,500 missions each year. Born in El Paso, Texas, Lang began his musical career as a trombonist. Lang received his commission through Officer Training School in San Antonio, Texas in April 1990. His previous commands include the Air Force Band of the Pacific in Alaska, and the Air Force Heritage of America Band in Virginia. Under his leadership, the Heritage of America Band received four Air Force Organizational Excellence awards.

With a tradition going back to its formation in 1941, The United States Air Force Band has long been the Air Forces premier musical organization, inspiring audiences in America and all over the world. Many of the works on this album demonstrate the history and importance of flying, from Philip Wilbys vision of a bygone era in Dawn Flight, Bruce Yurkos Red Tail Skirmish dedicated to the heroism of Tuskegee Airmen in WWII, and the futuristic excitement of Asimovs Aviary by Joel Puckett. The spectacular virtuosity of The United States Air Force Band can also be heard in Time Travels by the bands.

Air Force" is the official song of the United States Air Force, adopted in the late 1940s. Originally, the song was titled "Army Air Corps". Robert MacArthur Crawford wrote the initial first verse and the basic melody line in May of 1939. During World War II, the service was renamed "Army Air Forces" due to the change of the main American army's air arm naming in mid-1941, and the song title changed to agree.
