He took his life experience and put them all into Songs in the Key of Life, Motown founder Berry Gordy reflected in a 1997 documentary. Wonder’s sister Renee Hardaway also makes a vocal contribution to Songs in the Key of Life, delivering the scornful You nasty boy! that punctuates the album’s lead single, I Wish. The final track completed for the project, its lyrics originally dealt with war and cosmic spiritual stuff until Wonder attended a Motown company picnic. Saturn, a track on the album’s bonus EP, A Something’s Extra, also began as a fond look backwards. The lyrical location was originally Saginaw, Wonder’s Michigan birthplace, and intended as homage to his home in the mold of the Jackson 5’s Goin’ Back to Indiana.

Songs in the Key of Life is the eighteenth album by American recording artist Stevie Wonder, released on September 28, 1976, by Motown Records, through its division Tamla Records. It was the culmination of his "classic period" albums. The album was recorded primarily at Crystal Sound studio in Hollywood, with some sessions recorded at the Record Plant in Hollywood, the Record Plant in Sausalito, and The Hit Factory in New York City. Final mixing was performed at Crystal Sound.

Includes "Isn't She Lovely". Songs in the Key of Life (1976) was the highest high point of Stevie Wonder's career. More sprawling than Innervisions and Talking Book, this two-LP-plus-EP was also less of a consistent stunner than either of those masterworks. This album is probably in the top 10 of every music fan in existence. It was the first album I fell in love with as a 15yo kid when it came out, and if it's not my all-time fave still, it's right near the top. It has everything. First off, being a double-album means it's filled with a lot of music, which is a huge bonus when an album is really good (or great, such as this one is).

The magnum opus of Stevie Wonder, this epic double LP that spans almost one hour and a half is one of the most influential and acclaimed albums of all time. It reached position on the Billboard 200, won multiple Grammys including Album of the Year, was voted as the best album of the year in The Village Voice’s annual Pazz & Jop critics poll and is consistenly ranked as one the greatest albums of all times. Love's in Need of Love Today". Have a Talk with God" ft Frédéric Yonnet.

In the opening minutes of Songs In the Key of Life, Wonder projects his worry to his listeners, stating if we don’t appreciate love as it deserves, there may not be any left- a scary thought, indeed. Erykah Badu takes on a similar reflective tone on Baduizm’s Drama, where she calls her audience to teach your children wisdom, so there can be reality today, so they can live tomorrow. Ginuwine’s beautiful tenor captures the passion behind Stevie Wonder’s voice when he sings, especially with the sexy croon in the beginning of So Anxious. He samples Wonder’s Visions on I’ll Do Anything/I’m Sorry, which his featured on his debut album, but So Anxious captures one of his most passionate and sexy performances.
