Gibson At Work (1938-1957). The 22 page booklet contains an appreciation of Jennings, original album notes, recording details, album covers and period photos, and an in depth discography of Jennings' work as a sideman. Across these sides you'll hear Jennings (who played with Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Jordan, Wild Bill Davis, Jack McDuff, and others) in a number of groups-usually with a horn or two, piano, and rhythm section. Also here is Jennings' brother on vibes-more on that later. The 1954 tracks with the great Leo Parker (hear his work on Blue Note) on baritone sax in a quintet setting is surely one of the high points of this compilation. Jennings was influenced by Charlie Parker, and you can sometimes hear that influence in his timing, and with the great Leo Parker this set smokes.
