Far Far Away" is a song by the British rock band Slade, released in 1974 as the lead single from the band's first soundtrack album and fifth studio album Slade in Flame, in promotion of the upcoming film of the same name. The song was written by lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea, and produced by Chas Chandler. It reached No. 2 in the UK, remaining in the charts for six weeks. The song was certified UK Silver by BPI in November 1974.

Over the Hills and Far Away" is a traditional British song, dating back to at least the late 17th century. One version was published in Thomas D'Urfey's Wit and Mirth, or Pills to Purge Melancholy; a very different one appeared in George Farquhar's 1706 play The Recruiting Officer. A version also appears in John Gay's The Beggar's Opera of 1728. The words have changed over the years, as can be seen in the versions below. The only consistent element in early versions is the title line and the tune.

The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved - loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves. Laughter is sunshine, it chases winter from the human face. To love or have loved, that is enough. There is no other pearl to be found in the dark folds of life.

The terms far and far away may appear to be similar, but they are quite different. Far has many contexts and can be used in a variety of ways. However, far away is most commonly used in the context of distance. Furthermore, the phrase far away is built by modified the word far; hence, it is only natural to notice that far away tends to indicate a distance much further than as covered by just far, . As both far and far away imply distance, there are some instances where they can be used interchangeably
