It took me quite a long time to digest Hollywood to Hialeah. It is not the collection of more obvious tribal house cuts that I expected it would be (in light of the releases of "I Need Someone", "Break You" and "The Dig"). It is a deeper, rawer expression of Falcon's take on house. In hindsight the best summary I can think of is that Hollywood to Hialeah is the latest, minimal, evolution of Miami Soul (in the sense of the classic and unique output on Murk Records, Deep South Recordings and, obviously, the "Miami Soul" label). Hopefully there is much more to come. Importantly, this album is classic Falcon and a must have for any follower of Ralph (and Murk).

Ralph Falcon is one of the true mavericks in the world of house music. Throughout his prolific career he has embraced the emerging technology, and combined it with his very unique and much admired production style. Sometimes dark, sometimes provocative, Ralph brings an emotional groove to a track like nobody else. As a solo artist, Ralph released From Hollywood to Hialeah on Nervous Records. The album was the source of the number 1 billboard hit I Need Someone, as well as the underground classics Break You and Whateva. Prior to that he also wrote and produced Been A Long Time under The Fog alias, and this release has emerged as one of the most sampled and covered tracks in all of house music. As a DJ he has performed for audiences around the world, and continues to be one of the few DJ, Artists who brings a truly distinctive and artistic style to his sets.

Thinking of this minimal take on the sound as a project it feels rather incomplete. Following remixes of "Been a Long Time" and "Every Now and Then" it was only recently, 4 or so years later, that the concepts explored in this album have been revisited, this time in partnership, as Murk, with longtime partner Oscar G. This re-exploration has resulted in tracks like Dub Garage and Egoista both released on Murk Records (digital). Hopefully there is much more to come. Importantly, this album is classic Falcon and a must have for any follower of Ralph (and Murk).
