Michel Berger (28 November 1947 – 2 August 1992), born Michel Jean Hamburger, was a very successful French singer and songwriter. He was a central figure of France's pop music scene for two decades both as a singer and as a songwriter for well-known French artists like his wife France Gall, Françoise Hardy and Johnny Hallyday. He was also romantically involved with singer songwriter Véronique Sanson in the early 1970s before he married France Gall.

Written by Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon in the late '70s, Starmania has been a very successful stage show in Europe since its debut. It has been revived several times throughout the years, resulting in a huge production in 1993 that debuted in Paris and then toured the world. That particular production was criticized for putting too much glitz and glam into the show, but honestly the only thing that suffered was the occasional overdone song. The album is a collection of songs from the musical, which follows a series of characters living in the futuristic city of Monopolis. Performed in the style of the '70s production, this album features several cast members singing these songs the way they were meant to be performed. The occasional hollow production may rob a few of the songs of their power, but the performances are usually fiery enough to overcome the limitations of the recording.
