Talk about Lord Aaqil - Check It Out

Yeah, this is the poor quality ,homemade burned CDR with a paper print label glued on top of the CDR.

According to the producer there have been 500 pro pressed CD's duplicated at Disc Makers in Philly and 100 original promo CDr's, total 600 in existence. Can someone who owns the pressed CD post a photo or scan of the disc and the same story with someone who owns the CDr just to create an extra release in the dcs database and separate them? Thanks!

Ahmir Thompson did not produce Yo Kid whats your name by himself Darrin Ross did . Ahmir came in with the sample on a cassette. Darrin sampled it and programmed the entire beat in his mpc 60 II drum machine. Ahmir had the hook so he wrote the name of the song. Ahmir also did play the drums on it in pieces as his drum set could not fit entirely in Darrin Ross studio. Darrin mixed the song by himself in the studio after adding all other production elements to it. Micah had to hold the snare in place in the booth to get it recorded. Sidenote tidbit Ahmir Thompson does an amazing Michael Jackson dance impersonation (Faces and all). Yo Kid whats your name was almost thrown off the EP. We did a first cut which you can hear on Chopped Herring records. Craig Tobias one of the financial backers and Executive Producers hated it. Darrin had caught chicken pox from his nephew Alex and was home for about a week. Craig threatened Darrin that if he did not come and complete the EP he would have to return the advance. Darrin came in the studio chickenpox scars and all and did the entire song Yo Kid whats your name and mixed it that day too. Craig was so happy with it he gave Darrin a $250 cash bonus for coming in sick. Two weeks later Craig would be found murdered. He was kidnapped and held for a ransom that was never paid. RIP Craig. Some knowledge

Contrary to what most believe. Lord Aaqil Ep was a great record but did not sell units. This is why there is no follow up from him. He did not sell! There is a cassette version with New York on the cover that is even rarer to find than the promo Cd. After the Lord Aaqil EP flopped Organix by the Roots was released and the rest is history...he fell through the cracks. Helpful hints for crate diggers.

There will always be unbelievers but when we say there was a promo run...there was and that is the rarest version of the Cd. They were made by a local shop Cd maker that was cheaper than disc makers for short runs . It was a Jamaican guy who made the first Cd's. Then after the tobeat label was turned over to Mark Abrams he got the Discmakers version pressed.

I thought exactly the same as you when I've heard it from him for the first time and just wanted to confirm my assumption with someone who knows the case. As far as I know the first CDR's have started coming out in the mid->late 90's, because earlier the price of the CD burning machine was simply too high. On top of that he has mentioned that he owns an original master dat, so basically he can create this "CDR realease version" at any time he wants :) This is one of the reasons why CD is better than CDR. I'm not sure if in this case a separate release should be created, but could you please add a better scan of the cover and possibly a scan of this CDR? Thanks!

I don't believe they did CDr's of a 1993 release as promo copies. The Producer told the same to me, but a CD-R of a 1993 release? That wasn't common back then and I highly doubt that. I own the CD-R copy and it definitely looks like it was made just some years ago.
