City of Evil is the third studio album by Avenged Sevenfold released on June 6, 2005 by Warner Records. Co-produced by Andrew Murdock, City of Evil contains a more traditional heavy metal and hard rock sound than Avenged Sevenfold's previous two albums, which showcased a predominantly metalcore sound. The album is also notable for the absence of screaming vocals.

One of the least accepted bands in the Orange County, Calif. metalcore scene, Avenged Sevenfold abandoned their metalcore formula and left their former peers in the dust with their third album, City of Evil, which came out June 6, 2005. Emphasizing strong songwriting over speed and brutality, vocalist M. Shadows, guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance, bassist Johnny Christ and drummer The Rev, presented an album that more directly reflected their heavy metal influences: Metallica, Iron Maiden, Guns N’ Roses and Motley Crue. The metal community was equally happy with City of Evil, which debuted at No. 30 on the Billboard album chart. In August 2009, the album was certified platinum by the RIAA. To date, it has sold more than . million copies worldwide. Shadows said the band’s appeal stemmed from a combination of image, talent and versatility.

I really enjoy this album, but this pressing should be avoided. Quality is very poor. When I put it on my turntable it sounds like someone threw a blanket over my speakers.
