Black Velvet, the album, continues to travel down the same road of soul love that Charles Bradley began on his 2011 debut. Songs like "Can't Fight the Feeling" (originally recorded in 2007), "Fly Little Girl" (featuring Bradley on organ) and the heart-wrenching "I Feel a Change" speak to the essence of his spirit. The powerful electric version of "Victim of Love," featuring The Sha La Das, works as a spiritual cousin to Barbara Mason's 1965 R&B hit "Yes I'm Ready," and when Charles Bradley hits his singular scream at around the 3:40 spot in the song, you'll know why he has earned his title as the Screaming Eagle of Soul. Another highlight on the album is the tender "(I Hope You Find) The Good Life

Originating in London in 1989, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects of Love was poorly received when it crossed the ocean to New York. Of course, compared to the success Webber had achieved with Phantom of the Opera, nearly any response would have seemed cold. Still, Aspects of Love is a hard sell: a young man falls for an actress who in turn falls for his older uncle who already has a mistress. The score contains the beautiful "Love Changes Everything," and Michael Ball (the original Marius in the London version of Les Misèrables) gives a wonderful performance. Aspects of Love is a bit of an acquired taste, but it does have some worthwhile moments.

122 quotes from Love Is a Dog from Hell: ‘there is a loneliness in this world so greatthat you can see it in the slow movement ofthe hands of a clock. untouched unspoken to. watering a plant. The soul singer's second album for Daptone finds him in a more optimistic mood, channeling the sound of 1970s greats like Al Green and Curtis Mayfield, and the sheer power of his voice is undiminished. Two years on, Victim of Love is a more optimistic record, from the Motown-inspired catchy pop-soul number You Put the Flame on It to the gorgeous Through the Storm, a quiet elegy to bury his past traumas. But these fuzzy moments are offset by new forays into more coarse instrumentation. You Put the Fame on It aside, producer Thomas Brenneck pushes his artist from the 1960s into more 70s R&B than he’s previously been accustomed to.

Victim of Love is the second studio album by American soul singer Charles Bradley. It was released on April 2, 2013, by Daptone Records and Dunham Records. Victim of Love received widespread acclaim from critics.

Talk about Charles B - Lack Of Love

Elastic Skunk
The record seems to start without an intro (Lack of Love) then goes distorted as if been played backwards and then restarts if this is a remix it is completely messed up and is a djs nightmare,,

I can't comment on comparisons between the mastering on the original and this as I don't have the original, but the kicks seem to slightly phase on this version and its all a bit chaotic on the mix.

A Classic acid house track, that just builds and builds all the way through, this was a huge tune back in its day, especially in the legendary Hacienda where it seemed to work so well with the ambience of the club. The A side starting off with a funky acid hook, slowly building with layer of percussion, additional acid lines and the male vocal, then about towards the end of the track a piano riff is introduced briefly. The Ivory mix is probably the one a prefer if I had to make a choice which starts with a really nice quality piano riff then introduces the bubbling acid line etc and the two inter weave throughout the track. Both mixes are really strong as this is such a great example of what acid house could sound like when it was done well. Really worth a listen if not grabbing a copy for yourself. 10/10

A great peice of acid house, loved my most but hated by some purists, comdines true acid with bit of a cheesy vocal although somehow works very well. The original white label should include a heavy grade card cover with the rare to find Desire paper tab as always falls off due to cheap glue being used. The cover is also a from misprinted covers to other releases of the time turned inside out, mine being M D Emm, Fan The Flames.

Lack Of Love is timeless, vintage gem of a track, and the fact I'm about to jot down a laudable line or two about it, twenty years after its original release date, only helps prove my point. By combining really smooth vocals, great and subtle piano stabs and an infectious, yet instantly memorable and emotional acid riff, the track has potential to draw in both, the regular VIVA Club Rotation electronic music follower as well as the more underground orientated acid house freaks. I haven't really heard many DJs drop it that many times, but what I can tell is that it works equally well during the lazy morning after hours and during the peaks of more sophisticated house sets. A trait of a true classic, no doubt. It has really aged with grace in my humble opinion. One of those tunes which will bring smiles to people's faces another twenty years from today.

How does one combine brilliant deephouse with brilliant acid? By recording "Lack of love"! Most techno and acid fans hate it because it's too soft and most deephouse fans hate it because it is too hard. But I think it is one of the best records ever!
