The Silents were originally a Swedish c64 group, formed around the spring of 1987 by Benny-Hill (later Atom, much later Jedi), Axel F. (later Icon), Utopia, Dezed, Snokie, Mawda (later Zike), Dino and Woody. Most original members came from the dead group XL-Crackers (XLC). The very first release was "Enigma Writer", followed by several music rips from Snokie and Woody. The group eventually rose to prominence on the Amiga platform. They were a subgroup of Actual Cracking Entertainment for a few days in february 1988. The group co-organized The Silents and Stage 3 Party 1988 in april.

On 3 November 2007 the band released the first song from their debut album, "23", in the form of an EP. It has already received significant airplay on Triple J. On 29 March 2008 the band released its debut album, Things to Learn. In November 2008, Hayes was replaced by new drummer Mike Jelinek, Hayes went on to form a project named Hyla.

The Silents is a four-piece band from Perth, Western Australia. Benjamin Stowe and Jamie Terry began writing and recording music heavily influenced by early sixties psychedelic and beat music in the second half of 2002. In September 2003, Stowe watched friend Sam Ford’s band perform at a local Perth hotel and, after the show, asked if both Ford and drummer Alex Board would be interested in joining he and Terry to form a band.
