Off the Wall is the fifth solo studio album by American singer Michael Jackson, released on August 10, 1979 in the United States by Epic Records and internationally by CBS Records. It was Jackson's first album released through Epic Records, the label he recorded under until his death in 2009, and the first produced by Quincy Jones, whom he met while working on the 1978 film The Wiz. Several critics observed that Off the Wall was crafted from funk, disco, soft rock, Broadway and pop ballads

Michael Jackson had recorded solo prior to the release of Off the Wall in 1979, but this was his breakthrough, the album that established him as an artist of astonishing talent and a bright star in his own right. This was a visionary album, a record that found a way to break disco wide open into a new world where the beat was undeniable, but not the primary focus - it was part of a colorful tapestry of lush ballads and strings, smooth soul and pop, soft rock, and alluring funk.

Off the Wall is the sound of young Michael Jackson's liberation. Though he would become even more successful in the '80s, Off the Wall remains unabashedly fun to return to for its joy and lack of baggage. For 41 minutes, we can live in the eternally young Neverland Michael longed for, a universe largely without consequence or death. Off the Wall is the sound of young Michael Jackson's liberation. In the summer of 1976, a variety show called "The Jacksons" debuted on CBS.

Off the Will marks Jackson’s first decisive step toward a mature show-business personality, and except for some so-so material, it’s a complete success. A slick, sophisticated R&B-pop showcase with a definite disco slant, Off the Wall presents Michael Jackson as the Stevie Wonder of the Eighties. This resemblance is strongest on I Can’t Help It (cowritten by Wonder), in which Jackson’s vocal syncopation is reminiscent of the master’s breathless, dreamy stutter.

One song that stands out to me is "She's Out Of My Life". this song has a big change of pace and really (to me) shows that Jackson was not the young happy teen he was always cracked up to be at this age. Form a musical point of view, I think he overdoses the vocal performance. It's a sad hart felt the song and he needs to lose that flourish at the end of a sentence. I love how he makes his voice crack at the end as if he's about to cry...heck, maybe he was. "Burn This Disco Out" is such a great song to finish on as its such a strong rhythm and has that booming bass helped by a tuba as well. Gare album from a grate ira. 8/10
