The period 1927 to 1934 represents the first phase of Bing Crosby's phenomenally successful career, beginning with his tenure with bandleader Paul Whiteman and early featured recordings such as "Ol' Man River" and "Great Day"; these are followed by appearances with Gus Arnheim and Duke Ellington, notably the hit "Three Little Words," recorded as part of the Rhythm Boys; and finally ends. with the early years of his solo career, including such massive hits as "Please," "Love In Bloom," and "Little Dutch Mill.
