Portfolio is the debut studio album by Grace Jones, released in 1977 by Island Records. It spawned her first big hit, "La Vie en rose". Having enjoyed a successful modelling career in Paris and New York in the early 1970s, Jones released a series of singles throughout 1975–1976. None of them, however, managed to succeed in mainstream charts. Jones secured a record deal with Island Records in 1977 and found wider recognition only with her debut Island album, Portfolio.

Its initial release passed fairly unnoticed. The track was later released in the . on the minor disco label Beam Junction before Jones signed with Island Records, re-recorded the track and included it on her 1977 debut album Portfolio. The studio version of this song was released as the second promotional single after I Need A Man to promote the release of the album, but was mislabeled as a Young Gavin feature. The song was produced by The Neptunes and the chorus (a different chorus from the leaked demo version) by Pharrell Williams. The chorus on the final version includes Pharrell's vocals with an increased pitch.

Disco is a boxed set of three Grace Jones's albums released in 2015. The set contains Portfolio (1977), Fame (1978), and Muse (1979), all of which were recorded at Philadelphia's Sigma Sound with disco pioneer Tom Moulton as producer, in their entirety. The albums were remastered and each of the three CDs included seven bonus tracks while the vinyl box maintains the original track listings and offers a fourth record, that collects mainly long versions of the 45s from this era.

Jones began her recording career in 1975 with a disco song "I Need a Man" which became her first number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart two years later. She has since topped this chart with "Slave to the Rhythm" in 1985, "Love on Top of Love" in 1989 and "Sex Drive" in 1993, scoring four number one club hits in the United States, with a total of 17 entries on this chart.
