all Vienna Philharmonic concerts since the orchestra's founding in 1842. The Vienna Philharmonic. Felix von Weingartner conducted the "Blue Danube" Waltz on the Philharmonic subscription concert program of October 17/18th, and on October 25th, he conducted for the first time a Vienna Philharmonic concert consisting solely of Strauss' works. Yet the conductor who truly founded the Strauss tradition of the Vienna Philharmonic and who remains perhaps to this day the foremost apologist of this music was Clemens Krauss (1893-1954). In the years 1946 and 1947, Josef Krips (1902-1974) replaced Krauss, who returned in 1948 after the expiration of his two year conducting ban which had been imposed by the allies, and who conducted seven more New Year's Concerts until 1954. 25 New Year's Concerts with Willi Boskovsky.

Josef Alois Krips (8 April 1902 – 13 October 1974) was an Austrian conductor and violinist. Krips was born in Vienna. His father was Josef Jakob Krips, a medical doctor and amateur singer, and his mother was Aloisia, née Seitz. Krips was one of five sons. Krips went on to become a pupil of Felix Weingartner and Eusebius Mandyczewski. From 1921 to 1924, he served as Weingartner's assistant at the Vienna Volksoper, and also as répétiteur and chorus master.
