Margaret Mary "Pegi" Young (née Morton; December 1, 1952 – January 1, 2019) was an American singer, songwriter, environmentalist, educator and philanthropist. After marrying Canadian folk rock musician Neil Young in 1978, her debut as a singer came in 1983 when she was a member of The Pinkettes, the backing vocalists on her husband's rockabilly Shocking Pinks tour.

Pegi Young, the singer-songwriter who was married to Neil Young for 36 years, died Tuesday after a yearlong battle with cancer. We request that the families’ privacy be respected at this time. Young was working as a waitress at a diner near Neil Young’s ranch when they met in the mid-Seventies.

Pegi Young was not a music artist by design. She was a lifelong fan and started writing songs when she was in high school. Singing backup for then-husband Neil Young seemed somewhat casual, and her primary focus was the Bridge School, which she and Young started in 1986 to help children with severe physical and speech impairments. That was certainly the theme of 2017's RAW, Young's last album.

Recorded at Redwood Digital Studio (Tracks 1 To 10, 12); The Sound Factory (Track 11).

Pegi Young’s legacy is the Bridge School, for which she served as Executive Director for seven years. She served as President of its Board of Directors since its inception. The annual Bridge School Benefit attracted classic rock legends each year.

Neil Young met Margaret "Pegi" Morton in 1974 while she was employed as a waitress near his home in La Honda, Calif. At the time, Pegi - who died on Jan.

Pegi Young has been married to Neil Young since 1978. Their son Ben has cerebral palsy, and Pegi spent many years helping to establish the Bridge School, which is devoted to teaching kids like Ben with severe problems communicating and other special needs. Her second album Foul Deeds was released in 2010, with six of the ten tracks written by Pegi.
