Muhal Richard Abrams (born Richard Lewis Abrams; September 19, 1930 – October 29, 2017) was an American educator, administrator, composer, arranger, clarinetist, cellist, and jazz pianist in the free jazz medium. He recorded and toured the United States, Canada and Europe with his orchestra, sextet, quartet, duo and as a solo pianist.

Afrisong is a solo piano album by Muhal Richard Abrams which was released on India Navigation and the Japanese Trio/Whynot label and features seven performances by Abrams recorded in Chicago in September 1975.

Muhal Richard Abrams, world renowned pianist and composer, has been in the forefront of the contemporary music scene for over forty years. Afrisong was recorded in Chicago in 1975 by the Japanese producer Masahiko Yuh and gave Abrams the chance to display his instrumental facility and keyboard proficiency on this solo piano session, talents sometimes overshadowed by his arranging, compositional and band leading skills.
