Build Up is the solo debut by Rita Lee, originally released in 1970 during her time with Os Mutantes. Despite the moderate success of the single "José (Joseph)", the album failed to captivate listeners in Brazil. Due to the revived interest in Os Mutantes, the album has since gained a cult following in recent years with many considering it be one of her finest efforts. Special guests: Rogério Duprat - orchestral arrangements. Alexander Gordin (Lanny Gordin) - guitar.

Rita Lee (born Rita Lee Jones, December 31, 1947) is a Brazilian rock singer and composer. She is a former member of the Brazilian band Os Mutantes and is a popular figure in Brazilian entertainment, where she is also known for being an animal rights activist and a vegetarian. She has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. In 1970, Lee recorded her solo album, Build Up, produced by Arnaldo Baptista. Soon after, they had a stint at the Olympia in Paris. In that period, during their somewhat frequent tours in Europe, they recorded an LP that was never fully released, Tecnicolor, with the exception of some tracks included on 1971's Jardim Elétrico. The LP, A Divina Comédia ou Ando Meio Desligado, is from that year and Jardim Elétrico (Polydor) from the next. In 1972, Lee recorded another solo album backed by the Os Mutantes, Hoje É o Primeiro Dia do Resto da Sua Vida (Philips).

Rita Lee, of course, already had. She’d bested most of her Anglo counterparts on two late-‘60s albums with Os Mutantes, lacing her bandmates’ heavy sub-equatorial psych with the perfect compliment of larking alto, as well as a dark opus, A Divina Comedia, with the group that same year. Having already proved herself in that arena (she’s now known as The Grandmother of Rock in her native Brazil) was perhaps the reason Lee decided to try something different on Build Up. Though fellow Mutants Arnoldo Baptista and Sergio Dias both contribute to the album, those looking to hear Lee’s voice in the. It wasn’t a Mutantes album for a reason, after all. Build Up was never trying to send us to another universe, only to make us enjoy this one a little bit more.

Talk about Rita Lee - Build Up

Dangerous
My issue is a simple sleeve one and it has "de luxe" in black under "polydor" in silver. The side numbers on the label are placed inside the siver rectangles, different from this 1970 issue. Is my copy a reissue other than the 1971 one?
