In Step is the fourth studio album by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble released in 1989. The title In Step can be seen as referring to Vaughan's new-found sobriety, following the years of drug and alcohol use that eventually led Vaughan into rehabilitation. It was also Vaughan's final album with Double Trouble. In 1990, he recorded a collaboration album with his brother, Jimmie Vaughan, called Family Style; later that year, Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash.

This double album is the ultimate anthology of blues rock guitar genius Stevie Ray Vaughan's brilliant but tragically brief career. With a discography spanning just eight years, the Texas axeman almost single-handedly brought the blues back into the mainstream with searing shuffles like "Pride and Joy" and tender instrumentals like the aqueous "Lenny," which simultaneously channeled Jimi Hendrix and Albert King. And he could make the funk flow when he wanted, as shown by tracks like "Couldn't Stand the Weather.
Texas Flood, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble’s 1983 debut album, came out soon after, earning critical acclaim. Showcasing Vaughan’s striking guitar solos and featuring the crackerjack backing of Layton and Shannon, the album won two Grammys and numerous other awards. The band’s followup Couldn’t Stand the Weather (1983) included Voodoo Child, the Jimi Hendrix classic that Vaughan made his own. Incessant touring lifted the album and brought in more fans. Two more studio albums, Soul to Soul (1985) and In Step, sandwiched a live album, Live Alive (1989). More touring meant more time away from Austin and brother Jimmie, who had hit it big with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. The brothers were now blues royalty.
