Album · 2012 · 12 Songs. Oedipus: Music for a While (Arr. for Viola d'amore and Cello). By Henry Purcell, John Dryden & Nathaniel Lee - Garth Knox & Agnès Vesterman. 3. Viola d'amore Concerto in D Minor, RV 393: Allegro (Arr. By Antonio Vivaldi - Garth Knox & Agnès Vesterman.

2009 Garth Knox recorded another CD with ECM that was published in 2012: Saltarello – "a 14th-century fast Italian dance in ¾ time that survives today as a folk dance". Knox (fiddle, viola and viola d'amore) is accompanied by Agnès Vesterman (violoncello) and Sylvain Lemêtre (percussion). The compositions interpreted by the trio range from medieval music (Hildegard von Bingen, Guillaume de Machaut), renaissance (John Dowland), baroque (Henry Purcell, Antonio Vivaldi) to those of contemporaries like Kaija Saariaho and Garth Knox himself

Arranged By – Garth Knox. Cello – Agnès Vesterman. ECM 2157, 476 4501, ECM New Series 2157. Saltarello ‎(CD, Album). ECM Records, ECM Records, ECM New Series, ECM New Series.

Arranged By – Garth Knox.

On his first album he was joined by cellist Agnès Vesterman, who returns here, along with percussionist Sylvain Lemêtre. Besides viola d'amore, he plays modern viola and folk fiddle. Knox made the arrangements of the folk material and of the Baroque pieces. For the songs by Purcell and Dowland, one of the folk songs, and the Vivaldi Concerto in D minor, he uses viola d'amore and cello; the instruments sound gorgeous together, and he treats them as equal partners, interweaving the roles of solo and accompaniment

Knox, joined by violoncellist Agnès Vesterman and percussionist Sylvain Lemêtre, presents his own works alongside music by Hildegard von Bingen, juxtaposing the exquisite Renaissance sounds of John Dowland against pieces by Kaija Saariaho that make subtle use of electronics. Knox also sets arrangements of traditional melodies and anonymous dance movements against Vivaldi’s D-Minor Viola d’amore Concerto: a sensuous survey of a thousand years of musical events.

Garth Knox’s latest CD release is called Song of Songs and features Naturale by Luciano Berio for viola, tape and pecussion, Just by David Lang and En la Mar by Betty Olivero. Fellow performers on the recording : the Trio Medieval (voice), Agnès Vesterman (cello), Sylvain Lemetre (percussion), Cliona Doris (harp). Saltarello CD. Saltarello is the title of Garth Knox’s latest CD with ECM. Playing viola, viola.
