A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material is the first compilation album by American lo-fi musician John Maus, released on July 12, 2012. Spanning recordings from 1999 to 2010, the collection selects outtakes from his previous three albums in addition to tracks which had appeared on other compilations. All tracks written by John Maus.

This new, 16-track collection of rarities and unreleased cuts from 1999 to 2010 is filled with songs of murky romance marked by his deep, gothic, and expressive vocals.

The Nonce was a hip-hop duo from Los Angeles, California, that was active in the 1990s (releasing material from 1992 to 1999) The Nonce. Also known as. Topology Crew. In 1990, after their high school graduation, the Nonce began recording their first album. This album would however go unreleased (due to creative differences with their production company) until the master recordings were rediscovered in 2017. The following year, the album was finally released, appropriately titled 1990.

A Collection of Rarities. is rife with party favors excepted from 2007’s Love Is Real and last year’s We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves, reinforcing the scope of Maus’ songcraft. Maybe not as much as his 2006 album Songs, but there seems to be very little to dissect within the name A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material, little unifying these brightly hued nuggets, little mystery to their arrival to us in the digital age as a packaged commodity.
