Less Than Jake has been releasing great albums in the past few years, but this EP really stands ou. oesn't get any better than this! Less Than Jake has been releasing great albums in the past few years, but this EP really stands out. The seven track EP has a little bit of everything fans love about the band, including slow reggae, fast paced punk and obviously the good old sk. Their latest album release Sound The Alarm is no different. Only 7 tracks and roughly 20 minutes long the album delivers everything you have come to expect from a Less than Jake album, fast paced punk like "Call to Arms" and "Bomb Drop" to classic Less Than Jake mid tempo gems like "Welcome to My Life" and "Years of Living Dangerously. What I love most about this album is that bottom line it fun.

Sound - 6 Being one of the more recognizable names from the third-wave ska scene of the '90s, Less Than Jake attempted to branch out beyond the arguably gimmicky punk subgenre in their 2006 album, " In With the Out Crowd," concerned about their style growing too tedious with each album. But with that attempt resulting in a bland outcome that divested the band's sound of its ska traits without offering anything as a significant replacement, LTJ ultimately took the misstep as a sign and a setup to appeal back to their roots, both musically and conceptually.

Ska-punk stalwarts Less Than Jake follow their 2013 full-length, See the Light, with their ninth EP, Sound the Alarm. Over seven tracks, the enduring Gainesville quintet remains reliable, delivering trademark "whoa-oh"s and horn blasts that surge with an undeniably positive vibe. Despite the occasionally depressing lyrics, the overall sense of hope reminds listeners to keep fighting for what's to come. The best thing about Sound the Alarm is the Buddy and JR horn section, buffering the EP with enough pep and bounce to keep the mood elevated, especially on highlight "Good Sign. Like other late-era material (think "American Idle"), Sound the Alarm includes all the familiar hallmarks that the faithful will enjoy - and new fans can easily digest as a primer to delve into their decades-spanning catalog - executed with subtlety and a confident maturity reflective of their veteran status.
