Piano, Primary Artist.

Today, the day after the anniversary of her death, several large boxes were waiting on our back porch: the album that I recorded last July with Matt Carr, music that is so integrated and inseparable from my relationship to Annie, Rameau and Debussy. That it arrived today, not yesterday not tomorrow, cannot be accidental.

Jenny Q Chai is a Chinese- American pianist. She is active throughout China, the United States, and Europe, and specializes in contemporary piano music  . In 2017, Chai performed Jaroslaw Kapuściński’s Side Effects at Shanghai Benz-Mercedes Arena. The piece is also part of her 2018 program Sonorous Brushes, which received it’s London premiere at Chai’s Wigmore Hall debut in summer 2017. Sonorous Brushes was repeated to great acclaim at New York City’s Spectrum, when the New Yorker described her as pianist.

Featuring Friction Quartet & pianist, Jenny Q Chai. Video shot and directed by Michael McQuilken. Audio Recorded by Matt Carr.

I Turisti Nils Vigeland; Jenny Q Chai. 5. No. 1. - Nils Vigeland; Jenny Q Chai. 6. 2. 7. 3. 8. 4. This world premiere recording is a collaboration between Shanghai-based pianist Jenny Q Chai and New York composer Nils Vigeland, who present five works that span 40 years in their date of composition. From the canonic processes of the earliest piece here, all in due time, to the most recent, Allora e ora, this 2014 exclusive digital release is an exploration of the unique resonances of the piano, especially those created through the use of the sostenuto pedal. 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM – Naxos Studio Masters.

Jenny Q Chai, a doctoral student at the Manhattan School of Music, performing in a recital at Zankel Hall on Thursday night. Some young performers specialize in contemporary music because they think it is important to do so or to acquire a hip professional profile. The recital was presented by Ear to Mind, a New York organization that introduces audiences to contemporary music and for which Ms. Chai is a co-director. In the 60-minute first half of her program, playing with resourceful technique and sensitivity, Ms. Chai performed works by Debussy, Ligeti and Messiaen, along with the premieres of two pieces written by young composer friends.
