Bassist Max Bennett, who later in life played with pop/fusion bands in Los Angeles, started out his career as a bebop-oriented straight-ahead bassist in the Los Angeles area. He led three albums for Bethlehem, of which this was his first. Bennett heads a quintet full of notable West Coasters: trombonist Frank Rosolino, altoist Charlie Mariano, pianist Claude Williamson, and drummer Stan Levey.
