Return to Forever is a jazz fusion album by Chick Corea, simultaneously functioning as the debut album by the band of the same name. Unlike later albums by the group, it was released by the ECM label and produced by Manfred Eicher. The album was not released in the USA until 1975. Light As A Feather Chick Corea and Return to Forever. This is the second of two albums released by Return to Forever's first lineup and it provides no hints at all as to the rock-fusion direction they would take when Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke reconfigured the band later in the year. If anything, it leans even more toward a Latin jazz sound than its predecessor. I think it's very nearly as great and I consider these to be among the best electric jazz albums that I've heard.

This is the last great album by the original RTF lineup before Chick Corea decided to turn his group into another Mahavishnu Orchestra with cheesy synth solos and guitar hero pyrotechnics abound. I have never heard a better sounding Rhodes electric piano than on these first two albums. Unfortunately, the keyboard took a backseat as Chick acquired more hardware (cheesy sounding Moog/Arp synths plus a very irritating sounding Yamaha organ) on subsequent albums. This album is just a joy to listen to without a flashy sounding guitar or Moog synth breathing down your neck.
