The New Possibility: John Fahey's Guitar Soli Christmas Album is a 1968 album by American folk musician John Fahey. It is a collection of solo-guitar arrangements of familiar Christmas songs and has been Fahey's best selling recording, remaining in print since it was first released. The album is especially noteworthy since holiday music had never before been played in Fahey's acoustic-steel string blues guitar style.

It probably surprised a few people that guitar eccentric John Fahey chose to record Christmas music. This release comprises the majority of not one but two Christmas releases from 1968 and 1975. Most of the instrumentals on both albums will be familiar, such as "White Christmas," "The First Noel," and "What Child Is This?" On The New Possibility: John Fahey's Guitar Soli Christmas Album, Fahey plays alone, using unusual harmonics and open tunings to turn in pleasant versions of classic Christmas songs.

In reality John Fahey brought his genius for taking core melody and literally 'picking' at it in such a way that the tune, no matter how familiar, became a Fahey original. I had the great good fortune to see John Fahey live at the Red Herring Coffee House in Urbana, Illinois back around 1975. He said absolutely nothing before, during or after the concert. When I went looking for Christmas music around 1985, I ran into the original cassette of "The New Possibility. It was my family's only Christmas music for years until the tape deck died. I have three other holiday offerings from John Fahey in my collection of holiday music and have enjoyed all of them during the Christmas season. This recording was new to me, even though a couple of the tunes have appeared on the other albums, but great musicians always look for new ways to present the same-old same-old. I played this in the background while working on other projects and also while driving; I enjoy the presentations and the musicianship. Most of the songs are familiar, but there are a few that are new to me.
