It consists of the same music heard at the Houston concert and shows Jarre moving closer to conventional rock territory, though still with his distinct blueprint. The final track, "Last Rendez-Vous: Ron's Piece," was composed by Jarre for astronaut Ron McNair and was intended to be the first musical piece played and recorded in space. McNair's historic duty was cut short, however, by the Challenger shuttle disaster of January 1986.
Jean-Michel Jarre's electronic epics have always tended toward the spacey, but Rendez-Vous goes clear into the cosmos. Designed for play onboard space shuttle missions, the six-part suite has a weightless, soaring quality appropriate for that otherworldly setting. The final section is dedicated to Jarre's friend Ron McNair, an astronaut who died in the 1986 Challenger explosion. With a haunting saxophone solo atop a synthesised heartbeat, the piece becomes an emotional memorial and a somber conclusion to the interplanetary trip. Rendez-Vous Jean-Michel Jarre.

Ron's Piece: "This piece was specially composed for Ron to play on his saxophone in orbit and was to become the first musical piece played and recorded in space. Ron was so excited about this piece that he rehearsed it continuously in quarantine whilst preparing the mission. May the memory of my friend, the astronaut and the musician, Ron McNair live on through this music". Jean-Michel Jarre.
Remark: The original 2015 reissue pressing of Rendez-Vous (with matrix/runout A0102416645-0101 15), was made from a defective master with semitone pitch-bender faults on track 2 at around 16 seconds in with pitch changes and with the actual sound quality itself becoming slightly muffled. This fault occurs again around 3:52 and again at 5:23. Sony Music subsequently issued a corrected master with matrix/runout A0102467490-0101 12 A00. This is the corrected version.

Ron's Piece:
This piece was specially composed for Ron to play on his saxophone in the shuttle and was to become the first musical piece played and recorded in space.
