Pretenders is the debut studio album by British-American band The Pretenders, released on 7 January 1980 under Real Records in the UK, and Sire Records in the United States. A combination of rock, punk and pop music, this album made the band famous. The album features the singles "Stop Your Sobbing", "Kid" and "Brass in Pocket". Nick Lowe produced the Pretenders' first single, "Stop Your Sobbing", but decided not to work with them again as he thought the band was "not going anywhere".

In 1994 the Pretenders returned with a stable line up that included Chambers again, Adam Seymour (lead guitar) and Andy Hobson to deliver four studio albums, including the hit album Last of the Independents swiftly followed in 1995 with the acoustic album "Isle of View". Viva el Amor, released in 1999, would be their first album to not chart in mainland Europe with the exception of the UK, Germany and Sweden; the album peaked at 158 on the Billboard 200. In 2002 they released Loose Screw peaking at 179 on the Billboard 200 and 55 on the UK Albums Chart

Pretenders ~ Isle Of View. There are a lot of diehard Pretenders boosters out there who'll warm to this unplugged hits set much faster than Last of the Independents. Hynde's singing has never been finer, and it was a brilliant stroke to incorporate a string quartet into the acoustic soundscape

The Isle of View is a live acoustic album by rock band The Pretenders, released in 1995. It was recorded in May during a live, televised performance at London's Jacob Street Studios. The Duke Quartet accompanied Chrissie Hynde for much of the performance. Seymour and Hug wrote the material for the band. After Reprise Records dropped the Katydids, Seymour joined The Pretenders for four albums: Last of the Independents, the live album The Isle of View, Viva el Amor and Loose Screw. Additional performances featuring Seymour appeared on the four-disc Rhino Records release Pirate Radio which chronicled the band's career. Seymour contributed as a songwriter to The Pretenders' output, the first time that a band member (outside of the original members James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon) had been allowed to do so.

23 years ago today, The Pretenders released a live acoustic album, giving their fans an idea of what the band might’ve sounded like if they’d appeared on MTV Unplugged. They never did appear on that particular program, however, so if you’ve read otherwise online or elsewhere, please feel free to sound the Fake News alarm
