It was the first Mogwai album not to feature vocals, and was also the first to be self-produced by the band; the album was recorded by Andy Miller at Chem19 Studios in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, and mixed by Gareth Jones at Castle of Doom Studios in Glasgow. The album spawned an EP, Batcat, featuring the title track from the album. and also a collaboration with Roky Erickson, with Erickson providing vocals on "Devil Rides". Superheroes of BMX" is 1997 a song by the Scottish post-rock group Mogwai, from their 4 Satin EP, and later on the 2000 compilation album EP+6. Superheroes of BMX" is an eight-minute-long instrumental which makes use of a Bontempi Organ, which is built upon throughout the song. The song features an electronic drum beat produced through a BOSS DR-550 Dr. Rhythm drum machine

4 Satin is Mogwai's debut EP. It features three tracks, "Superheroes of BMX" (recorded at MCM Studios in Hamilton, Scotland, and produced by Andy Miller), "Now You're Taken" (recorded at Chamber Studio in Edinburgh, Scotland, produced by Jamie Harley, and featuring vocals by Aidan Moffat), and "Stereodee" (also recorded at MCM Studios, but produced by Paul Savage). All three tracks later appeared on the 2000 compilation album, EP+6. A US mispress of 4 Satin was released, where the wrong master tape was used.
