Quicksilver Messenger Service, 1970 John Cipollina, Greg Elmore, Nicky Hopkins and David Freiberg. Background information. Quicksilver Messenger Service released their eponymous debut album in 1968. It was followed by Happy Trails, released in early 1969 and largely recorded live at the Fillmore East and the Fillmore West. Like most live albums of the time, Happy Trails made extensive use of studio overdubs, and the last two songs were recorded entirely in the studio, but it has nonetheless been called the most accurate reproduction of the band's acclaimed live performances

This set collects outtakes from a 1967 studio session, live tracks from a pair of concerts at the Fillmore in 1966 and 1967, live tracks from a concert at the Fillmore East in 1968, live tracks from a concert at Winterland in 1970, and tracks from a performance at the Old Mill Tavern, also from 1970.
