The Insect Trust was an American jazz-based rock band that formed in New York in 1967. The members of the band were Nancy Jeffries on vocals, Bill Barth on guitar, Luke Faust, formerly of the Holy Modal Rounders, on guitar, banjo, fiddle, and harmonica, Trevor Koehler on saxophone, and Robert Palmer (1945–1997) on clarinet and alto saxophone. Elvin Jones and Bernard Purdie both drummed with the group at times

While the Insect Trust were clearly and affectionately influenced by classic blues and folk, they were also eager to mess around with it, and Robert Palmer and Trevor Koehler's horns and woodwinds often throw this music into a loopy, atonal, and acid-infused direction while the loose, slightly rickety sound of Bill Barth and Luke Faust's guitars and banjos honors the. styles found on vintage 78s just as their rock-oriented chops keep the results from sounding as if they spent much time actually learning the original riffs.

Talk about The Insect Trust - The Insect Trust

Zololmaran
this band hails from Hoboken, New Jersey and serves a song-plate laden with an amalgamatik eclection of ameriquarian Folk-heritage blending Jazz & Mountain Music into a captivating flow of Rock & Blues (or as to be found on some press-release-sheets: "their musical knowledge spans a period from pre-World War I to 2001"(!!!) ... feat. Nancy Jeffries ( singer (great voice!) and former bass player in The SOLIPS (which is pre-Insect Trust) ...Trevor Koehler (a baritone sax that enriched the San Francisco Jazz-scene for ten years) ... Luke Faust (banjo wizard!) ...Warren A. Gardener (he derived the band name INSECT TRUST from the works of William S. Burroughs!) ...Bob Palmer (saxes) ...Bill Barth ( short-time road-manager for Bukka White and manager (for one year) of the legendary Skip James (!) and the Memphis Blues Festival was actually the result of Bill's friendship with many black Bluesmen! ...and he plays electric guitar in The Insect Trust) Bill Folwell (formerly played trumpet & string-bass in ARS NOVA and electric bass in the ground-breaking "New Grass"-album by Albert Ayler (!) , he joined Insect Trust after the recording of this album! ...It’s a pity Robbie Basho did not record an album with this GREAT band!!
