When Reprise signed him, they added four more tracks to the mix to round it out as an album. Yoakam, a Kentuckian, brought country music back into its own medium by reviving the classic Bakersfield sound with the help of his producer and lead guitarist, former Detroiter Pete Anderson. As a result, the "new traditionalist" movement was born, but Yoakam was always a cut or three above the rest, as this album displays in spades. Guitars, Cadillacs, Et. Etc. kicks off with a smoking cover of Johnny Horton's "Honky Tonk Man," a song now so closely associated with Yoakam,.

Guitars, Cadillacs, Et. is country music artist Dwight Yoakam's debut album. It was also the first of three consecutive No. 1 Billboard Country Albums for him. Three of its tracks rose into the Top 40 of the Hot Country Singles chart in 1986. Yoakam's first single was "Honky Tonk Man" peaking at No. 3 on the country charts; it was a song originally popularized by Johnny Horton in 1956.

Album Guitars, Cadillacs, Et. Guitars, Cadillacs Lyrics. Girl you taught me how to hurt real bad and cry myself to sleep And showed me how this town can shatter dreams Another lesson 'bout a naive fool who came to Babylon And found out that the pie don't taste so sweet

But Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc. is the finest collection of songs Dwight would bring together, due in no small part both to a faithful regard for everything that made the classics great, and both the will and talent to surpass the vision of their originators. While This Time would ultimately prove to be Dwight’s most personal and complete musical statement, nothing can beat his debut for the sheer joy of a sound that refuses to compromise or bow to prevailing musical trends in any way, shape or form. Love it or hate it, this album is country.
