Recorded in 1979, Traumspiel is a wild album, composed of loud and avant-garde jazz and fusion, Indian and raga music influences, and trippy lysergic folk and electronics. What a bizzarre album! Begins with tribal percussion and a high pitched woman s operatic vocals tho wordless I find this sort of singing gets on my nerves hence my disinterest in opera per-se. The album incorporate ethnic percussion, textural soundscapes, rock drumming and the synths. It is dynamic you can hear a little funk even thrown in and borders avant but doesnt pigeon hole itself in the avant garde pool of music. For this being a 1980 release from Germany and containing no kraut rock or berlin school i.e. Tangerine Dream influence it is without a doubt a unique album. I enjoy the fact that Herbert uses sort of odd plucked instrumentation to add alot of variation to the music.Odd album like this are what make my curiosity driven ears glad I took a chance. As one gets older and wants to push their listening avenues as far from mainstream as possible and seek fresh new listening terroir.
