In August 2007, after having spent some time on the local club scene, Our Last Night was signed to Epitaph Records, a label owned by Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz, and released their first album, The Ghosts Among Us, on March 4, 2008. It peaked at No. 6 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers (Northeast) on March 22, 2008.

Our Last Night has delivered a powerful record with strong melody and technical precision, an assertive first step into their major music career with their debut release on the independent label Epitaph. The opening track "Symptoms of a Failing System" leaves nothing to imagination, with loud drums, impressive guitar, strong bass, and the wonderful complimentary vocals of brothers Trevor (growls) and Matt (clean) Wentworth. They are great at what they are trying to do, and they pull it off without a hitch in The Ghosts Among Us. However, they desperately need to innovate and find a sound that is their own. What the band has shown in this album is that they have what it takes to take what they have and craft something even better. Because they are relatively young and new I believe this is possible. In "Escape", Matt describes their predicament when he asks "Where do we go now"".
