Noh Theatre is a very particular type of theatre typical of the Japanese spirit, with its magnificent costumes and its extremely slow pace. It takes time to get used to understand the spirit of this very particular theatre. The musical ensemble accompanying the actors/singers is called the hayashi and has four musicians: a nohkan player and three percussionists. The nohkan is a bamboo transverse flute used only in Noh and is deliberately made to distort the pitch. A very unusual music for our Western ears, but it shows the amazing musical creativity of Japanese people with one flute and three elements of percussion.
