Redirected from Vermis (2013 Album)). Vermis is the fourth full-length album by New Zealand death metal band Ulcerate. It is the first album by Ulcerate to be released through Relapse. While the band has been noted for its use of dissonance, drummer Jamie Saint Merat countered that "dissonance for dissonance’s sake is extremely fatiguing"

Pitchfork's Andy O'Connor cited the album's use of technicality favourably, remarking that "as complicated as the music may be, Vermis is. an album of songs, not exercises.

When Ulcerate released their sophomore effort Everything Is Fire back in 2009 I was completely blown away. I had never heard anything similar before and I believe with their rather radical shift in style (in comparison to their first output Of Fracture and Failure ) they had created something new and unique for the extreme metal genre. With the following record The Destroyers of All, the trio composed of drummer Jamie Saint Merat, guitarist Michael Hoggard and bassist/vocalist Paul Kelland were able to maintain the level of quality and meet, if not exceed expectations.

Ulcerate is a New Zealand-based extreme metal band formed by guitarist Michael Hoggard and drummer Jamie Saint Merat in 2000. The band have released five full-length studio albums to date. The band's fifth full-length album Shrines of Paralysis was released on 28 October 2016 on Relapse Records.

Due to the fact that every line on Vermis builds off this foundation, the album is fundamentally saturated with intense emotions of utter dread and bitterness towards a crumbling world. Welcome to Ulcerate’s perfect musical hell. Ulcerate is the brainchild of drummer Jamie Saint-Merat and guitarist Michael Hoggard, who have played together since high school. The duo formed Bloodwreath in 2000 before rebranding as Ulcerate three years later (a moniker they admit seemed like a better idea at the time).

Which makes Ulcerate's artistic trajectory all the more flippant; starting life as a moody variant on the brute tech template with a e focus on composition, the band have gradually edged back from the full throttle shred (drummer Jamie Saint Merat taking up much of that slack) and started dabbling in more atmospheric form. asically following the moody intent of. their early work to its logical – though hardly inevitable – conclusion
