John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes and was at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions and appeared on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk. Over the course of his career, Coltrane's music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension

An album of previously unheard original compositions by the legendary jazz saxophonist has been discovered 55 years after its recording. Sonny Rollins, a peer of Coltrane’s and also regarded as one of the greatest jazz saxophonists of all time, described the discovery as like finding a new room in the Great Pyramid. Among the seven tracks are two completely unheard original compositions, called Untitled Original 11383 and Untitled Original 11386, both of which are played on soprano saxophone

Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей John Coltrane. Coltrane anchors his title track around the Spanish folk song El Vito. This album is seductive and complex and challenges the listener’s musical expectations. Clearly conceived as Coltrane’s answer to Miles Davis’s Sketches of Spain, this album pushes more boundaries with its free jazz styling. Ответить Уведомить меня Helpful.

Coltrane’s contract with Impulse! called for two records a year. Whether that day’s work in March was to be conceived at the time as a whole album, or most of one, is uncertain. The extent to which you believe the record’s subtitle- The Lost Album -might be the extent to which you are excited by the news of Both Directions. I can’t quite do it, but there are other reasons to be excited.

Coltrane is a 1962 studio album by jazz saxophonist John Coltrane. When reissued on CD, it featured a Coltrane composition dedicated to his hero "Big Nick" Nicholas which Coltrane would record later the same year with his Ellington collaboration Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. The composition "Tunji" was written by Coltrane in dedication to the Nigerian drummer, Babatunde Olatunji.

Featuring the Classic Quartet – John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones – and recorded at the end of a two-week run at Birdland, the music on this album represents one of the most influential groups in music history both performing in a musical style it had perfected and reaching in new, exploratory directions that were to affect the trajectory of jazz. from that point forward  . It would be hard to overstate the treasure this album is for a dyed in the wool Coltrane fan. The sound is rich beyond words, which is ironic in that these were not fully mastered recordings. Everything is clear and present.
