It was released in 1999 but Kanwulf, the vocalist of Nargaroth always said that he started the recording in 1993 and he thought that it is better when he released the Album later because he had to go to College. Herbstleyd (Autumn Suffering) is the debut studio album of the black metal band Nargaroth. It was released through No Colours Records in December 1998. The album contains the first of the "Amarok - Zorn des Lammes" trilogy. Part II can be found on Amarok and part III on Black Metal Ist Krieg. All tracks written by Kanwulf.

Anyway, this album begins with the title song, "Herbstleyd. This is the ORIGINAL version, not the one on the "Amarok" album. This version is much better, as it begins with a beautiful mix of different, and somewhat abnormal. This album is a genuine classic. Whether or not people love or hate Kanwulf or Nargaroth in general, everyone seems to enjoy this album. I have only talked to a few people who hate this record. They couldn't give me a valid reason, so I wrote them off.

Until then, Nargaroth had only released the Orke demo and the Herbstleyd demo earlier in 1998, however the sheer quality present in the songwriting on Herbstleyd makes it hard to believe that this really is Nargaroth's first full length studio recording
