It was produced by Dave Cobb, who also produced Isbell's previous two records: 2013's Southeastern and 2015's Something More Than Free and was released on June 16, 2017. The Nashville Sound again features Isbell's band The 400 Unit and is the first album since Here We Rest in 2011 to give the band top billing alongside him.

The Sound Of Nashville – V/A (3CDs). 1-1 –Dolly Parton Jolene. 1-6 –Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers Islands In The Stream. 1-9 –The Shires Nashville Grey Skies. His album catalogue contains such gems as Sings Hank Williams (even though Williams’ only wrote four of the songs on the album) as well Now There Was A Song, the subject of this album release. Featuring twelve well known country classics, it represents a dual departure from the norm for Johnny, featuring as it does the steel guitar in abundance as well as a number of drinking songs, two things in particular he had avoided in the past (as well as the future).

TITLE added to MP3 Basket. The Sound of Nashville. Nashville Music Studio's has for many, many years been one of the most revered centres of 'Country-Music' and ineed early 'RockaBilly' with many a great name of the music-scene starting out there. This 3-CD Compilation very much a reflection of the Country-Music scene, certainly worth checking out with many a great name on-board with many a great song such as - 'Johnny Cash' - 'I Walk The Line'. LeAnn Rimes' - 'How Do I Live'. John Denver' - 'Take Me Home Country Roads'.

The Nashville Sound sees Isbell swaggering confidently along the rockier edge of his range-as usual-he's at his best on the reflective ballads. There’s nothing particularly Nashville about Jason Isbell’s new album-no cowboy hats or keening steel guitars-but it does possess, in spades, the kind of blue-collar concerns that have traditionally furnished country music’s backbone.

The Nashville Sound is a fitting title for Jason Isbell’s newest album for a few reasons. The foremost, is that the title of the record can be taken literally. Jason and the 400 Unit made an unabashedly country record. Something to Love is blue-grassy with a nice fiddle lead and White Man’s World and Cumberland Gap boast distorted guitars and offer a more alt-country flavoring. Blending various forms of country music together: The Nashville Sound creates a broad palette of the sounds that make up the modern country sound based out of Nashville. Thus, The Nashville Sound is an aptly titled record that is sure to offer any country music fan something to like. Or should I say Something to Love"). On the other hand, the name, The Nashville Sound has an almost ironic connotation to it.
