Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music is the sixth studio album by the British rock band Hawkwind, released in 1976. It reached No. 33 on the UK album charts. The title makes references to old science fiction magazines (Astounding and Amazing Stories), the concept being that each piece of music (and its title) would be interpreted as an individual science fiction story.

This album was the first ever Hawkwind album I actually listened to, but admittedly I was only 7 at the time Digging: Allegaeon - Apoptosis. dante1991 April 17th 2013. Astounding Sounds is a huge departure in sound from Warriors. There is some jazz influence and some punk. Calvert is back and the lyrics he pens are some of Hawkwind's very best.

Most of the album consists of moderately forceful hard rock, dense by most standards but nowhere near as corrosive as earlier Hawkwind albums. Kerb Crawler," frontman Dave Brock's ode to his car, is a rollicking party tune, and the closing instrumental, "Chronoglide Skyway," is a lush, beautiful epic, but these are the only standouts. The remaining tracks are pleasant enough, but tend to blend into one another. Lyrically, the album is far quirkier, thanks to wordsmith Bob Calvert's idiosyncrasies.
