Talk about The Shaker - Mooncat

Oh boy this is a bomb! didn't hit me on first listen (had my cloth ears on) but "dark and intensely euphoric" is bang on! thanks talleyrandscat for the tip! This must really have blown some minds bitd. 11/10

This earnest little stomper - the Delirious DJ remix of the already-excellent 'Mooncat' - embodies the distinctive sound of UK house music in '94 - '95. Emerging before hard house became synonymous with the 'boink boink boink' hi-NRG style championed latterly by Tony de Vit, Mooncat's freight-train percussion and bouncing bass are driven by a relentlessly surging piano-line, ably demonstrating just how effective piano can be in a heads-up chugger. Throw in some restrained acidic squelching, add a vocal sample that used to make light shine out of the top of my head back when this was played in Sin City in Stoke and you have a gloriously strident tune that appeals as much to the sly grin as to the big stupid smile - dark and intensely euphoric.

This was one of the first record sin my collection and it was one that really got me into this UK House / Piano House sound of the time (1993-96). Both mixes were being played on pirate radio and clubs at the time. Clubs like Sides, Tin Pan Alley, The Waterfront and The Ormond Multimedia. All of the early Shaker releases were floor fillers and still sound good today. The Shaker always had catchy bass lines and vocals. "Turnin up the bass, the trebles in your face. Wont you listen please to put my mind at ease..." Excellent stuff.
