Beginning of Things is the second album from American country music singer Charlie Worsham. It was released on April 21, 2017 via Warner Bros. Matt Bjorke of Roughstock was favorable, praising the varied song styles and lyrics.

Charlie Worsham seemed slightly over-polished on his 2013 debut Rubberband, so the clever, quirky Beginning of Things comes as a welcome surprise. Worsham still indulges in studio slickness - this is a major label through and through, a record driven by pro musicians and packaged as a gleaming object - but he shifts directions from song to song, moving from gentle fingerpicking folk to simmering soul, even cooking up a country-disco groove for "Birthday Suit.

But Beginning of Things is an album that needs a slow build. This record isn’t background noise you can drive to work to, is how Abe Stoklasa puts it, who co-wrote two of the album’s tracks, including the title cut. Indeed, it doesn’t have smash hits that infect the brain with paint-by-numbers melodies: it has strong feats of refined songwriting and confessions of a man in progress, not trying to be in charge. Charlie Worsham didn’t let down country radio, country radio – and an industry that praises talent but won’t take a gamble – let down Charlie Worsham, and he knows it. But the roommate is back, here and there. Worsham hasn’t had time for boxing class ( anger management ) or therapy lately, and the roommate has been winning some days, he says.

Courtesy of the artist. The fond joke is an underrated art form, especially in this time of hashtag brutalism and Louis . style existential wandering. Subtle twists like this are part of what makes Beginning Of Things so pleasurable. Worsham, who co-wrote most of the album's songs, turns the approach tender in "Old Time's Sake," a hookup song that ends with a parking-lot goodbye instead of a bro-country-style roll in the back of a pickup.
