A fine tenor saxophonist who was an underrated journeyman throughout much of his career, Gordon Brisker was always known for his reliability and adaptability. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 6, 1937. ead Full Biography.

Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, or simply The Big Phat Band, is an 18-piece jazz orchestra that combines the big band swing of the 1930s and 1940s with contemporary music such as funk and jazz fusion. The band is led by Gordon Goodwin, who arranges, composes, plays piano and saxophone. Since its origin, the Big Phat Band has received several Grammy Awards and many Grammy nominations.

Gordon Brisker ( born November 6, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio; † 10 September 2004 in Cincinnati ) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist and flutist as well as high school teachers. Brisker learned as a child, initially to play the piano and studied woodwind instruments at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He played with Ralph Marterie before he moved to the Berklee College of Music and graduated from California State University with a master.

The Christian McBride Big Band is a 17-piece big band whose debut album The Good Feeling received the Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album in 2012.

Gordon Brisker's first Naxos Jazz release, the inaugural shot for the label- The Gift (Naxos Jazz 86001, 1998) was a superb straight-ahead example of West Coast Post Bop. The present My Son John extends that sound, mostly thanks to the presence of musician and impresario Mike Nock. Where The Gift was a fairly mainstream fare, My Son John has an edgy, modern feel. No where on this disc does Brisker betray cool West Coast roots. Only the standard, "You Go To My Head" is played in a mainstream fashion.
