The Velvet Underground is the self-titled third studio album by American rock band the Velvet Underground. Released in March 1969, it was their first record with Doug Yule, who was a replacement for John Cale. Recorded in 1968 at TTG Studios in Hollywood, California, the album's sound-consisting largely of ballads and straightforward rock songs-marked a notable shift in style from the band's previous recordings.

Another View is a compilation of previously unreleased outtakes by the Velvet Underground. The majority of the songs here come from the sessions for the VU’s scrapped follow-up to their self-titled album. This album was shelved due to the band being dropped by the struggling MGM Records because of their controversial nature and low sales.

ANOTHER VIEW works as that one final glimpse at the Velvet Underground– another insight into the various aspects that made the band great, and another pang of regret that they were never given their due in their time. In the sweltering guitars of the instrumental "Guess I'm Falling In Love" and the edginess of "Hey Mr. Rain," we get the chaotic side of the Velvet Underground. This is the John Cale-era group that conquered sonic landscapes and continues to inspire musicians nearly thirty years later.

Talk about The Velvet Underground - Another View

Crazy
It goes without saying, of course, that this is not just any slapdash collection of outtakes: it's a collection of Velvet Underground outtakes, and that makes all the difference. This band radiated a strange magic that made their peers sound hopelessly blah in comparison and was never equaled during the full flowering of punk...and here, even on the three (count 'em) instrumentals and sloppy alternate take of the chilling, John Cale-dominated 'Hey Mr. Rain', that magic is in evidence. (You also get 'We're Gonna Have a Real Good Time Together', which Lou Reed later reworked for his landmark solo album "Street Hassle", and a tentative early version of the anthemic 'Rock and Roll'.) Listening to demos, castoffs and studio warm-ups has never been so much fun. Three and a half stars.
