Youth Lagoon follows his heartfelt 2011 debut The Year of Hibernation with an album that is bigger, bolder, and more emotionally resonant, thanks to production from Ben Allen. Trevor Powers' project is firmly in the lineage of bands like Mercury Rev, Sparklehorse, and Modest Mouse. These qualities are about the only things that haven't changed for Youth Lagoon on Wondrous Bughouse. This record broadens Powers' musical and lyrical scope into something universal in a literal and figurative sense, evoking the cosmos, heaven, and hell. But Powers sounds curious and awestruck rather than naïve, someone who explores this lush and frightening soundworld instead of explaining it.

Wondrous Bughouse is the second album by Youth Lagoon, the stage name of American musician Trevor Powers. The album was released on March 5, 2013 on the independent record label Fat Possum Records. It peaked at No. 76 on the Billboard 200, No. 12 on the Independent Albums chart and No. 26 on the Top Rock Albums chart.

Took me a while to notice, but my vinyl copy of this does not have the track "Pelican Man" despite being listed on both the cover and the label. Also "Attic Doctor" and "The Bath" are B1 and B2 respectively despite being listed as A2 and B1 as above.

Youth Lagoon's second album, Wondrous Bughouse, lives up to the first part of its name: the sheer amount of sounds Trevor Powers packs into these songs certainly inspire wonder.

Only 4 left in stock (more on the way). Only 17 left in stock (more on the way). Double vinyl LP pressing. 2013 sophomore album from Boise native Trevor Powers AKA Youth Lagoon. Wondrous Bughous is the follow-up to his widely acclaimed 2011 release The Year of Hibernation. Powers says this album spawned from what he describes as becoming more ''fascinated by the human psyche and where the spiritual world meets the physical world. Powers describes the writing process of his first album as a way for his mind to communicate with his body, not the other way around. It seems the same can be said for Wondrous Bughouse.

Wondrous Bughouse doesn’t expand Youth Lagoon’s sound so much as pour neon-colored Kool-Aid onto it until it’s diluted to a point where it’s almost difficult to hold onto much of anything in these songs. I prefer his first album Year of Hibernation more but regardless this is an absolutely magical album. Or consider a donation?

Talk about Youth Lagoon - Wondrous Bughouse

Awene
Another relatively poorly produced indie record in an era completely flooded with them. The first LP is pretty abrasive, with a few redeeming moments. The second side is quite a bit better but overall I would say this record is a skip unless you're a big fan of the band.
Neol
My record had dirt and dust all over it (lots of crackling noises) although it was sealed, and the middle hole was too small to fit on my record player...I amnot very happy about it! Otherwise it would sound pretty good I guess

Took me a while to notice, but my vinyl copy of this does not have the track "Pelican Man" despite being listed on both the cover and the label. Also "Attic Doctor" and "The Bath" are B1 and B2 respectively despite being listed as A2 and B1 as above. After searching, I've only found one mention of "Pelican Man"s absence on an amazon review. Are their any copies with the song included or with the track listing fixed, or all they all like this?
Mr_Jeйson
It happend the same to me, I bought the record and Pelican Man was missing, so I return it to the record store. But some time later I went back to the same record store and I see Wondrous Bughouse sealed on sale, it was the same eddition I check the code, since I love the record I decided to take my chances. Lucky me this time the record did contain Pelican Man this time.
Nikok
Same situation with mine. No Pelican Man. Got it brand new at a record store in Annapolis, MD. I don't know if Fat Possum is aware, because there seems to be no mention of it on their website, or anywhere else for that matter, outside of here and that amazon review. Was pretty disappointed when I noticed it was missing, because that song's one of the highlights of the whole album.
Wrathmaster
Same here. I've just unfolded my copy and played it for the first time. As listed, A1 should contain "Through mind and back", "Mute" and "Attic Doctor". Instead, only the first two can be played. A2 should contain "The bath" and "Pelican man", but actually "Attic Doctor" and "The Bath" are included. B1 and B2 are as listed, starting with Dropla, so no "Pelican man" can be found anywhere. I've got my copy from Amazon. Does anyone else know anything about this? Is it every copy like this and anyone has noticed or did I just got a damaged print run?
Xlisiahal
Pressing is VERY good. Sounds well-balanced.
