Sky 3 is the third album by English/Australian instrumental progressive rock band Sky, released in 1981. It reached number three in the British Albums chart. It was the first album recorded after Francis Monkman's departure from the group, with Steve Gray replacing him on keyboards. In 2015 Esoteric Recordings continued their schedule of remasters and expanded releases with this recording. Sky. John Williams – guitars.

Sky is the debut album by the supergroup Sky, released in 1979. In 2014 Esoteric Recordings started a schedule of remasters and expanded releases with this recording. All other CD issues up to and including the 2005 Sanctuary Records release only contained the original album. 2007 Arcàngelo double CD (ARC-7249/50). Sky 4 is certainly one of the better of the later releases, the source music well chosen and beautifully arranged to do it full justice. The playing is (of course) superb and all in all it is a joy to listen to. Sky are sometimes tarred with the cod-classical brush but this album shows just how skillful they were in translating some of these pieces into a new setting for a new audience. Three of the seven tracks on the bonus DVD, the 1982 BBC show Night Music, come from Sky 3 with only a great My Giselle from Forthcoming

However, they not only selected the wrong material, they played conservatively, with musical excellence completely overshadowing any sense of playfulness, or even emotion. Sky remains faithful to their own style, and this shortish album isn't so bad at all. Had they chosen only the best-known classical pieces that everyone would recognize, it would have been a totally different situation, closer to tasteless things like Hooked On Classics. The danceable 'Masquerade' (Khatchaturian) sounds like it was written by - or for - this group.
