Both sides are absolute tunes. Stand Bold has a heavier bassline and aged well too. For me it´s all about the flip though. Reply Notify me 2 Helpful.

Jazz Is Universal is an album by the Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band featuring performances recorded in Germany in 1961 for the Atlantic label. The album was the first by the Big Band although earlier recordings by Kenny Clarke and Francy Boland's Octet had been released previously. All compositions by Francy Boland except where noted. Box 703, Washington, . Gloria" (Bronisław Kaper) - 4:39.

Posed with the question, Who invented jazz album cover design? Most people will instantly say, Blue Note Records, and Reid Miles in particular. Bacon’s sleeves sometimes included one of Francis Wolff’s photographs of the artist; it helped them to stand out. When the new twelve-inch format came along it was Reid Miles, a d designer who had worked for Esquire magazine that came to prominence. Perhaps most ironic of all, given that Blue Note album sleeves have become the benchmark against which all modern jazz covers – and those of just about any other album – are measured, Miles was not a jazz fan, but a classical-music lover. Yet perhaps it was his distance from the music that was also his strength, allowing him to approach the design unencumbered by all but the basic details – the album title, the feel of the music, and something about the session.

What has kept this album in the limelight and in listeners’ hearts for so many years is the unending sense of effortless swing, the magnificently catchy melodies, and the beautifully choreographed dance between four luminaries of music. Taking a page from the boogaloo playbook, the piece Sidewinder may stand as one of the funkiest hard bop tunes set to record. Just try to stop yourself from dancing to this masterpiece. A crowd-pleaser, the album’s secret weapon lies in its heavy-hitting A-team of a band that keeps you grooving even as they get into some deep musical territory.

Both sides are absolute tunes. Jazz Creation used to be the one I rinsed to death, nice guitar lick and overall a Bristol feel that reminds on the early V / Full Cycle click. Stand Bold has a heavier bassline and aged well too. For me it´s all about the flip though

This is absolute TTTUUUNNNEE!!! One of the first jungle records I ever owned. Still sounds fresh today. Definitely worth picking up if you see it. Nice jazzy rinse outs.
